We would like to congratulate Principal Engineer John Knowles, who has been admitted into the UK Register of Ground Engineering Professionals (RoGEP). He is the third member of Geotechnics to achieve the top rank of Ground Engineering Adviser, after Directors John Booth and Len Threadgold.

John joined Geotechnics in 2003, working on site investigations out of our Chester office. He became a Chartered Geologist in 2008. He is responsible for quality assurance and training, as well as supervision and interpretive reporting on a wide variety of geotechnical and geoenvironmental ground investigation projects in the North West.

The RoGEP provides a list of engineers, geologists and other specialists who have demonstrated a significant level of experience, knowledge and skill in ground engineering. There are three grades: Professional, Specialist and Adviser.

To join the register, specialists must be a chartered member of the Institute of Civil Engineers (ICE), the Geological Society or the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IoM3). Applicants then undergo rigorous peer review by their fellow professionals to ensure that they meet the required assessment criteria for the grade.

Benefits of RoGEP

·        Demonstrates significant ground engineering capability and experience

·        Supported by leading professional bodies (ICE, Geological Society, IoM3)

·        More knowledge means more efficient planning for your programme

·        Improved ability to understand and manage risks from the ground

·        Understanding and reducing risks before a problem arises will help you avoid increased costs down the line

The aim of the RoGEP is to assist clients in their choice of ground engineering expert, so that they can confidently rely on proven experience, knowledge and skill. This adds value to projects through an optimal understanding of the ground and cost-effective risk management.
